As space has been commercialized, the industry of space technology and rocketry has been rapidly expanding, being pushed forward by companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin. Due to the rapidly increasing demand seen in this industry, its no mystery that the demand for organizations pursuing this technology at the collegiate level has also risen. We saw a problem, a lot of motivated students wanting to learn rocketry, but not having the opportunities or the means. Before Ignitors conception, the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) experienced a rule change that allowed 2 teams from the same university to compete, and thus Ignitors was born. Ignitors Rocketry was founded in the Fall of 2024 under The Society of Mechatronics Engineering Technology, who helped fund our team and get us to our first IREC. In Ignitors Rocketry, our goals are to mentor the next generation of rocket engineers, and to push for unique solutions and innovation in rocket technology as we prepare students for their future in the Aerospace field. Whether you're here looking to learn the many different facets of rocketry and how it all comes together, or whether you're here to get involved with a meaningful project, Ignitors Rocketry may have something for you!
We competed in the International Rocket Engineering Competition for the very first time this year, entering the 10k COTS hybrid category with our 8.5 foot tall fiberglass rocket named FIRE IN THE HOLE, powered by a Contrail M711 motor.
